Original Art work ideas for the Cover of The Forest of Adventures. I wanted to create the sense of something magical and at the same time create the idea of nature and destiny working together. Something larger than the pragmatic mechanics of life, just in the way that Mina seems to find herself moved on a wave of destiny that is outside of her control. I also wanted it to be beautiful - just as the story is.

Sketch of Meadowlake 2008

Here is an early sketch of the setting of Meadowlake. I often find myself sketching in my research note books; I find it helps crystalise my ideas, planting the place firmly in my mind so that it becomes like an experience of a place I've visited rather than one that is purely imagined.

She is paper fragile
So that when the snow falls
she sweeps and bends to his caress
As pale as the steel coloured paper
Marked with the black eloquence of flight
That swirls in momentary voice
And then fades
like the word
